Statues and Icons

Icons are paintings on wood. These and other symbols and objects, such as the cross and fish, have spiritual value as reminders but were not to be worshiped or thought to have any power of themselves. The Jews adorned the Ark with images of angels and Moses made use of a bronze image of a snake. The prohibition against false idols of pagans is not to be confused with legitimate symbols of faith.
